As widely expected, Apple has shown off an updated version of its iPhone - the new iPhone 3G S, a 7.2 Mbps HSDPA capable phone with a 3 megapixel autofocus camera. The iPhone 3G S also offers twice the capacity with a 16GB model and a new 32GB model. 
 
Jon Rubinstein, a former executive behind Apple's iPod, on Wednesday was named chief executive of smartphone maker Palm, replacing Ed Colligan who is stepping down after 16 years with the company.
 
Consumers are getting smart. According to new research by Yankee Group, 41 percent of consumers are likely to choose a smartphone as their next mobile device, a trend that could alter the relationship between handset OEMs and wireless carriers. The Yankee Group said that smartphones will account for 38 percent of all handsets by 2013.
